eusexua - fka twigs
Back in 2019, FKA twigs released her single "Cellophane". I had just gotten out of an intense phase of my life: I had fallen really hard for one of my uni classmates just when I had to move away for a semester abroad in France. I spent the entirety of that semester trying to maintain the spark of our relationship over text and calls, but it ultimately did not work out and we broke off contact at the end of 2018. This kind of was my first experience of heartbreak, and so I was in a pretty poor state emotionally for a while -- the perfect state to listen to a song revolving around the lyric "didn't I do it for you". After really liking "Cellophane", I listened to FKA twigs' album "Magadelene" and even went to a concert of hers in Cologne. Subsequently, I somehow lost interest in her music for a while -- until Spotify recommended me this new release of hers. I was surprised how much I liked it. I love electronic music, and so the production here is really a hit for me. I really enjoy the influence of techno, trip-hop and IDM. I also feel like the album has a Björk-y sound, but then again I haven't listened to enough Björk to really claim that confidently. Another cool aspect is that Koreless is featured on one song -- and electronic music artist I already knew and liked. An easy-to-get-into album with a cool sound throwing you back to late nineties and early 2000s electronic sounds.
